This Painted Lady Looked like Too Much Work for Portland Buyers
As home stagers in Portland, Oregon we often see homes that linger on the market, homes that aren’t professionally staged but that could use a stager’s help to improve their appeal to potential buyers. We’ve noticed that Portland homes that were built about 20 years are showing their age! These homes were built in the early-to-mid 1990’s; they often sport brass light fixtures and hardware, oak cabinets, wallpaper, and pastel-colored walls.
Today’s savvy buyers prefer a home that looks “move in ready.” They’ve watched HGTV and want a home that’s fresh, modern, and that doesn’t require their time and money once they’ve moved in …. they want their weekends free to enjoy their family, friends, and leisure activities.
Room Solutions Staging was asked to provide a staging quote for this vacant Portland-area home, which had been on the market for several months without an offer. This spacious home had some wonderful features, but here’s the first two rooms buyers saw just off the foyer:
The living room and adjoining dining room both had pink walls and pale pink ceilings, along with floral window swags … all of which were in style 20 years ago, but not what today’s buyers are looking for. We recommended a neutral wall color along with removing the window swags and replacing a few brass light fixtures in this home. Here’s how it looked after some easy and cost-effective changes: Lighter, brighter, fresher, more what the target buyer was seeking:
The result of these easy changes is that this home SOLD after staging! Just removing the most dated-looking aspects of the home showed buyers that this lovely home COULD indeed be easily updated. Happy Sellers, happy listing agent, and satisfied buyers = a winning combination!
